Carrboro Earns “Bicycle Friendly Community” Designation


The League of American Bicyclists named the Town of Carrboro a Bicycle Friendly Community at the “Silver” level on February 26th, 2011. Carrboro was promoted from the “Bronze” category, which the Town has held since first being named a Bicycle Friendly Community in 2004. Neighboring communities, Chapel Hill and Durham, received Bronze awards this year.
Carrboro has 25 miles of bike lanes and three miles of multi-use paths. The Town of Carrboro commissioned Greenways Incorporated to prepare a Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Plan in 2007. The Town is currently implementing Safe Routes to School programs and actively participates in National Bike Month each May.
